As Executive Mayor and on behalf of the City Council of George, it is indeed a privilege to be associated with an event of such magnitude as the OCC Challenge.
Over the years it has not only grown in numbers and stature, but has become an integral part and synonymous with George. It has impacted on the lives of those living with disabilities, but also broadened the vision of the whole community of George. Sport, in whatever form, have the innate potential to build, strengthen and unite communities, foster and develop friendships across all possible barriers.
The OCC Challenge is more than merely a sporting event. It is a source of hope, inspiration, determination and a blessing to the competitors and all our citizens. Not only does it take courage to compete, but requires a firm and unwavering belief in ones ability.
It is in conquering and overcoming your limitations, moving the goalposts and stretching your endurance that one can truly achieve so much more.
